Calling all anime fashion fans - learn how to crochet your own Calcifer beanie! Inspired by the Studio Ghibli film "Howl's Moving Castle", this tapestry crochet hat pattern is uniquely designed and brushed to look just like your favorite fiery friend Calcifer! A cheaper but cooler alternative to high fashion merch *cough cough Loewe*, this fluffy flame hat will keep your head warm quite literally. The pattern is extremely detailed and includes 4 patterns in one for customizability!
Notes:
- This 25-page printable pdf is written only in English using US terminology and includes detailed instructions on how to do the following:
- crochet, brush, and assemble a beanie
- color-changing in tapestry crochet
- versions for two color palettes (red and blue) AND two head sizes (small and large), for a total of FOUR pixel charts and color block instructions
- Although this pattern focuses on crochet, the pixel chart/graph disclosed can be utilized for other fiber art techniques such as knitting, etc.

Difficulty: Intermediate - should have familiarity with basic crochet techniques, this pattern is a great introduction to learning color-changing and reading chart/color block patterns, and I do my best to be as detailed as possible!
Materials needed:
- Acrylic worsted weight yarn - 1 skein each color (note that brushing is recommended for only natural/acrylic fibers, not polyester-based yarns)
- For Red Calcifer: Bright red, Red orange, Orange, Yellow
- For Blue Calcifer: dark, medium, and light blue
- 4.5mm hook (you may use a different size depending on your tension)
- Darning needle
- Scissors
- Pet slicker brush (recommended: mask to prevent inhaling fibers)
- White and Black felt
- Fabric glue
Dimensions:
- For Small size: ~ 21in head circumference unstretched post-brushing
- For Large size: ~ 24in head circumference unstretched post-brushing
- Ribbing allows for flexibility in size! Also note that brushing will cause the material to become larger

I've been crocheting for decades but never spent much time on colorwork. This pattern taught me new and easy ways to carry colors so that there aren't any floats on either side of the work. I love that it's more than just color charts, the block pattern pages are very easy to follow and not something I've seen anyone else do!
